While materials alone don’t make a product sustainable, they do account for a significant portion of its environmental impact—water usage and pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and textile waste are all influenced by the choice of textiles. We prioritize using the highest quality, natural, and renewable fibers available to ensure the longevity of our products, while also considering their environmental and social impact during the sourcing process.

Sustainable Hemp: Nature's Resilient Fiber
Our hemp is sourced from certified farms in the mountains of Northern China. As one of the most sustainable fibers, hemp thrives without chemical pesticides and requires minimal water. Its rapid growth cycle actively conserves soil health, replenishing vital nutrients for future crops, while avoiding GMOs entirely. The resulting fiber embodies natural strength and versatility: UV-resistant, mold-proof, and antibacterial properties ensure longevity, while high absorbency allows vibrant dye retention. Hemp's thermo-regulating nature adapts to seasonal temperatures, offering year-round comfort. Practical yet elegant, our hemp fabrics soften with use, resist wrinkles better than linen, and withstand machine washing and drying with ease.

With a 10,000-year history in human textiles, hemp carries a legacy of ecological harmony. At Purbelif, we honor this tradition through modern engineering, transforming raw fibers into premium fabrics while upholding sustainability. Our closed-loop production system eliminates harmful chemicals, recycles 98% of water used, and ensures wastewater undergoes triple purification. By merging ancestral wisdom with cutting-edge technology, we create textiles that honor both the planet and craftsmanship – proving that responsible innovation can elevate nature's oldest materials.
European Flax® Certified Linen
Flax linen is considered one of the most environmentally friendly fibers in the textiles industry. It requires much less water than most other fibers to cultivate, and every part of the flax plant can be utilized to create diverse and valuable products, meaning there’s no waste. The flax plant also has a high rate of carbon absorption and creates a carbon sink, storing 400,000 tons of CO₂ in Europe each year. Few, if any, pesticides and fertilizers are required in the cultivation of flax, and often, flax comes close to the organic standard without much effort.
At PurBelif, we exclusively work with linen that holds a European Flax® certification. This certification ensures that the flax has been produced in Western Europe (France, Belgium, or The Netherlands) and guarantees a high level of traceability and accountability throughout each stage of production.
This ensures that the following standards are met:
-
No irrigation (rainwater only);
-
No GMO;
-
Zero waste;
-
Mechanical scutching (ensuring zero chemicals are used in this process);
-
Natural field retting (also known as ‘dew retting’), and that;
-
Fibre production is in compliance with International Labour Organisation rules

Our 100% Linen is OEKO-TEX® 100 certified, ensuring no harmful or toxic dyes have been used during any part of the production and that every component of the product (every thread, button and other accessories) has also been tested for harmful substances, ensuring the product is completely safe & toxin free.

Organic Cotton
PurBelif exclusively works with organic cotton certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS ensures the cotton is grown organically and that strict social and environmental criteria are followed from seed to final garment.
The majority of PurBelif’s cotton is sourced from a non-profit program that assists farmers in earning better incomes through sustainable agriculture. The company practices agroecological farming, which goes beyond organic methods to improve local ecosystems.
All PurBelif cotton items are made in factories with leading social certifications, like SA8000 or BSCI, and have stringent environmental policies that adhere with GOTS criteria.
